Happy New Year to all my myLot friends! I hope that despite all the unpleasant things happening everywhere, you still find hope in whatever situation you are in.
I was away (again) for quite some time. I just had to grieve for a while. My little brother suddenly passed away last September. He was 32 and had been living in a home care for people with special needs. I cried so much more over his passing than when my father died of a lingering illness. I guess it was the shock of losing someone so dear and so unexpectedly. I haven't cried buckets in years...
I turned to crochet while mourning. I never thought I'd pick up an old hobby (I did crochet in grade school and until in my late teens) and do better than before. Thanks to YouTube and Pinterest, I learned several granny square patterns! I gave away crocheted items as holiday presents, and I'm still working on other projects.
Crochet can be very relaxing and fulfilling.
I'm currently on crochet break, though, because the eyes need to rest.
I took out my brushes and paints a few days ago and have been making small, nature-inspired artworks that are either abstract or hyper realistic. I've also resumed working on a series of supplements for English learners in the primary grades. It's not as exciting as art or crochet but it can help pay the bills.
I haven't made any spectacular new year's resolutions or anything. I just usually carry over the goals from my birthday.
How are things on your end?

Happy New Year!
I'm very sorry to learn about your younger brother. Some deaths just hit harder.
You might be interested in watching a fellow Filipino. He had the same idea about making it easier for people learning English. He has a channel on YouTube where he explains English and pronunciation and is writing books about it, too. His link is: Hmm... I can't locate his channel link in my saved channels. I'm sorry.
I don't make New Year resolutions anymore.
Things are quiet here, just the way I like them.

My editor just released a new structural framework that was originally for Grade 7. I find it quite complex for third graders, but I have no choice but to use the same framework. Challenge accepted!
Glad it's quiet where you are. We have Mordor happening right across our apartment complex. Building construction 24/7. I'll probably lug this laptop to a nearby Starbucks and work there while getting distracted all the same by people coming in and out.

We're in a neighborhood with mostly older adults so it stays quiet unless the older guy next-door decides to mow after I've fallen asleep in the morning.
I hope the kids do well with that framework. Good luck!

Happy New Year. I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. Life is so unpredictable, as one does not know what's around the corner. My deepest condolences. I am delighted to hear about your hobby. I have no such talent but admire others' talents. My mum is also into knitting, crocheting, painting, and whatnot. God Bless

Thanks for the condolences. I hope I won't get the same "surprise" this year. I've had quite a lot last year, and though I survived, I felt exhausted to the bones.
Nice to know that your mom and I share the same hobbies. They're also called "grandma hobbies". I love them because they help me stay calm and relaxed.
