Mother-In-Law Is Getting Paranoid

Mother-in-law keeps losing things. Some of them she's legitimately losing. Some of them she never had or they never existed but she thinks she's lost them. But instead of thinking she's misplaced them, she's convinced that somebody comes into her apartment and steals them. One of her "family bible" which we don't think ever existed because we've never seen it and she's never talked about it before in 83 years. One is her address book. One is the blanket off of her couch. We can't get her to understand that nobody would want to steal her address book or her blanket and that she's just put them somewhere else that she doesn't remember. Related to this . . . we're getting closer to being able to admit her to Memory Care. Her doctor's appointment is this Friday Jan. 16th which is hopefully the last requirement for admission. We think we straightened out the whole payment thing. Oh, for those of you who haven't been following - mother in law has Alzheimer's dementia.

I have to say better she is in a place where she is taken care of than one day getting totally lost herself,

@looeyville Accusations of theft in care homes are part of the deal, but on the other hand staff can use that to their advantage if they wish, and dismiss genuine concerns as “Oh you know she’s always saying those things!” Best to have an inventory of everything. We wish we’d taken an inventory of my wife’s aunt’s jewellery, along with photographs.

Is she having dementia? Coz if she does, I think she is remembering her old memories. Maybe she really have them when she was young.

I hope everything goes smoothly after she's completed the testing and it proves she's having memory problems. I'm glad you got the payments worked out to your satisfaction. Good luck!

This is so sad and so tough for those trying to deal with it all.

My MIL had dementia and was constantly accusing my FIL's "girlfriend" (which he didn't have) of taking meat out of the freezer, her pillowcases, etc. It's so sad. I hope your MIL gets into Memory Care without any problems.
