I posted a while ago that we were having to get a doorbell with a camera for my Mom. Her doorbell had broken and for safety I wanted her to have another bell with a camera so that she could see who was at the door , especially at night.
We have the same sort of problem, we have a camera but the bell is connected to The Misters phone ….i said I didn’t want it on my phone as I didn’t want it beeping every time someone walked passed the house, especially when I was at work.
I still think we need a bell with a camera as The Mister works away during the week ….
What do you think ?
What do you have ?

We don't have one.
We don't want one.
I don't think that we need one
Our street is busy and hundreds of people walk past our front door every day.
Our neighbours CCTV is good, it covers our front door

You are covered then. We are in a small cul de sac. It’s quiet. When I’m here alone I would rather be able to see who is at the door ….and be able to speak to them too. We can t see people walking up our drive …

Well in that case go and get one because a bit of peace of mind is priceless.
We have a spyhole on our front door.

@Ineeddentures I’m concerned if we have loads on the door people won’t know which to press

No, we don't but I think it's a good idea. I was talking about that with Pretty today... She says the window in the top part of the door is good enough. *shrug* I don't control our finances right now so I get no say in what we buy or do with the money.
You can always mute the sound on your phone when you're at school.

@Traceyjayne But you won't be home when the sound is muted so it shouldn't matter.
I asked Pretty if she was tall enough to look out the window in the door and she stuck her tongue out at me.
She was making faces at me off and on while we were at the Ophthalmologist's office. He kept telling me to watch her while he was checking my eyes. She'd make faces, I'd laugh and he'd turn around to see what she was doing that time and then laugh along with me.

I think muting the sound defeats the object of having it …
We have stained glass window in the door so you can maybe recognise people you know but others you wouldn’t see clearly. We don’t have a spy hole ….im too short too see anyway …

After my packages were stolen one afternoon last year my dad bought me a doorbell with a camera.I have yet to have it installed. I wouldn’t be able to see at night anyway because the lights outside are broken and it’s pitch black. But during the day, living in an apartment, I can’t imagine how many times I’d get a notice of someone in front of my door.

You can have your camera camera connected to your phone, and tweek the notification setting on your phone so you only get notified with the alerts you want. You can also tweek the range of view those alerts are triggered to. And it won't affect the mister's set-up.
My doorbell does have a camera and mine's set so I know when people are approaching, but my phone isn't going off every time a bug crawls across the lense (which is a thing that happens here) which can get annoying.

As much as I would love to have a doorbell with a camera, my relatives and myself cannot afford one yet.

@traceyjayne Even the Post Office and Amazon know that we always leave our front door open and our deliveries of mail etc are brought right in to us. I was quite shocked the first time I encountered a man walking up our hallway with a parcel for me in his hand. He was shocked too I think, with me stepping out of the bathroom unclad. We do lock up before retiring for the night.

I think it's always a good idea. My Ring camera will be here by the 22nd. It won't be able to be installed until the weather improves.
