Adopting a cat, I need some (strange) advice.

Hi friends, my mom & uncle are going to FL on Valentine’s Day and will not be returning until end of March. My Dad and I are excited beyond words.
Happy Valentine’s Day to us both
Ok, because Timmy’s whole family has passed on, he’s extremely lonely. But also depressed. He’s going behind the bathroom door now and sleeping there, like he just wants to hide away from the world and give up on life. (He is not sick.)
I was on Petfinder looking for a white kitten, was gonna name him Frosty.
Instead, I came across a cat that resembles one of his sisters. As soon as I locked eyes on this Angel, my search completely stopped. I could not see past her, I could not look beyond her, all I saw was her. She’s an older cat, very quiet, and basically just likes to lay around. And that’s exactly what Timmy needs. Another cat body near him.
My mom’s cat, Sonny, is always hanging out with us, but if I’m not around, he plays too rough with Tim (Timmy is 17) and Sonny’s only 10.
I have a 3-part plan for Feb. and March. It all begins once my mom & uncle get outta here.
1.) Fix up my room exactly like a studio apartment. No more looking for apartments, the only truly safe one is in New Baltimore, back home. My Dad and I are on a waitlist for this particular place, but it’s longggg.
Like 2-4 years long. We’ve been on the waitlist for 1.5 years.
So we wait it out. Let’s practice patience here. In the meantime, do a complete room makeover, and maybe get a hotel room back home a couple times a month. I can shower with CITY water again, hit up all my old grocery stores, and then still return back to this stupid house. Until we get the big call.
2.) Install a catio, here. Temporarily.
My Dad will help me with this, he promised. It was either that, or get my ex-fiancé to do it, which he’s great at. He’s awesome at building and construction. But the issue with that is, he might hang around for months & months, and I don’t want that. It’s bad enough here. So my Dad is gonna help me secure the catio, and I can do the rest.
3.) And this is the BIGGIE! Adopt the cat I saw on Petfinder. The problem is, it has to look like I “found” the cat somewhere. My mom will kill me if she finds out I adopted one, just for Timmy.
But if it kinda just strolled into my life, that would be ok. Like I rescued the cat from outside.
(She’s weird like that.)
But there are no stray cats around here. And for good reason. We have the kind of woods that have large, cat-eating creatures living back there.
Telling her a cat just showed up at the front door is not believable.
I ran into an old buddy of mine back home yesterday while I was at the New Baltimore post office getting yet another refund for an apartment app money order that went south. Told him the whole situation, he said whatever story I come up with, he’d back me up. He offered to say HE got me the cat, but I don’t want to put that on him. He’s just too nice of a guy and he doesn’t deserve it. But I love the idea of him going along with it, just in case I need backup.
How can I adopt this cat while making it look like I didn’t really adopt her?
It has to be more like a rescue. NOT an adoption from a shelter.
All suggestions are welcome. And I mean ALL suggestions, I don’t care if you think it’s a stupid suggestion, still hit me with it.
I’m open to all different ideas and storylines.
Thanks guys!
Lunch break over, back to work.
Happy Weekend, watch SNL, and I’ll be back to see if anyone comes up with a believable story I can use.

Best of luck to you, I hope it works, and enjoy the new furry member of the family. Say you came upon the cat on the street or somewhere.

Like maybe back home, old neighborhood. She *might* say something like, Why didn’t you just leave it there? Maybe the cat belongs to someone.
But I can still work off this ^^
Thanks so much RS

You could always say somebody was moving away and couldn't take their cat so asked you to watch it for them until they could come back and get it... Then they find out their new place won't allow pets...

Whoahhh DaddyEvil. Now this is Evil.
It’s a 2-part plan. Whoops, now they STILL can’t take the cat back because even the new place won’t allow pets.
I’m loving it. Need to find someone I know in an apartment.
Or just let the guy from back home be the apartment dweller that’s moving. Nice! Thanks so much.

I know! Trust me, I reeeeally didn’t want to do any of this. I thought over time, Timmy would adjust.
He just has no idea how to be an only cat, but how could he? He grew up with an entire family.
Thank you Amber X and you can bet I’ll be posting pics if/when I get this little Angel. Should be about 3 weeks.

As much as I know you don't like the idea, try the truth. If you really want to sell it as a lie, and ask your friend to adopt the cat for you. But at the end of the day, it's up to you. I know you want to avoid a fight, and adopting a second cat Might help timmy or it might not. All cats (with the exception of a few) have lived to be 18. If Timmy is 17, then just love him until his time comes. I don't know if at his age, that another cat is a good idea for his sake.
Cats are taratorial creatures. Bringing in another cat, might cause more stress for Timmy. But, if you REALLY want to adopt the cat, my above suggestions are still important. You could also mention a half truth. Timmy is old, he may have a year or two left, and you wanted to adopt another senior cat.

I see where you’re coming from Kayla, I have some worries myself that Tim might not take to this new cat.
But there’s also a chance he may actually think it’s his sister.
It could go either way. I would have to give her back to the foster that has her right now if for some reason Timmy hated her or it caused him more stress. All of this is for him.
But Timmy’s a big goofball, even at his age. He was in love with both my dogs, tried playing with a group of baby raccoons on the roof once, he likes just about anything.
We’ll see how it goes, and thank you.

@Melanie_Marie Well I know you were looking for plasable lies to tell, but I just had to add in my two cents thinking of Timmy and his possible declining health.

Possibly. Hey that’s pretty good, Judy. I would need to think of someone I only “kinda” know (so my mom couldn’t make contact) and say something like, “They’re taking her to the pound!”
Thank you :))
