San Francisco will soon have a Lunar New Yar parade. It is the year of the horse. For the first time, they have a mascot. There will be some for sale. Stores in Chinatown make as much money during tis time than several months combined. The name of the mascot is Maverick, and he is described as a decendant of the horse god.

My house is just a few blocks away from a Chinese school and I could hear the beating of the drums as the young students practice the dragon dance. Chinese schools in this city each have their dragon dancers and during the Chinese New Year, they roam around the city and visit different business establishments dance there for good luck.

Some stores rely on these special events for much of their income.
