More bad news

On January 1st we were told that a friend – who had recently retired and was enjoying a new phase of life sailing around Europe with his wife – had been diagnosed with leukaemia. Thankfully his treatment seems to be going well so far.
But then yesterday another friend told me she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is scheduled for surgery in two weeks.
What is going on? I swear that more people than ever are developing cancer of one sort or another. I know the incidence often increases with age, but none of these people are ‘old’ yet. And people nowadays are more likely to talk about their diagnosis than in the past, but still, I’m sure this is not ‘normal’.
There has got to be something going wrong somewhere, whether it’s lifestyle, diet, environment or what I don’t know.
Have you noticed an increasing trend?

It’s been in the news here lately how many people under 35 have been diagnosed with colon cancer. Colonoscopies aren’t even recommended in the U.S. until age 45, but young people are getting it left and right. And I’m talking healthy, fit people. It makes no sense.

I had heard that 1 in 3 people in the US will get a diagnosis of cancer.

I'd have to agree that there are more deadly diseases going around now. An acquaintance has just come back from Cambodia with some unusual bug and of course being in a retirement village, there are quite a lot of residents with one problem or another.
