Lost one – but found two!

Our eldest daughter, known here as ‘Big One’, is learning to drive a car. So yesterday when she needed to go to the railway station I suggested she could drive herself there. We have magnetic ‘L’ plates (a requirement for learner drivers) so we hurriedly slapped one on the front of the car and one on the back (it was raining) and set off. After a couple of miles, whether it was because we had picked up a bit of speed or because the magnetic stuff doesn’t work so well on a wet car, the ‘L’ at the front suddenly flew off over the windscreen! There was a car close behind us so we couldn’t stop, so we just continued as planned. At the station she went to catch her train and I got into the driver’s seat and went to do a bit of shopping before heading home. But I hate losing things! Even though these ‘L’ plates cost only a few pounds, I didn’t want to lose one if I could help it, so back I went onto the same road we came on. I stopped in a layby and walked back along the road towards the stretch where I remembered it flying off. Sure enough after a little while I found one. Still, it seemed very dirty for something that had only been there a couple of hours, so I wasn’t sure it was ours. So I continued a bit further and lo and behold! There was another one! I still wasn’t sure that was ours either because it was a bit damaged, but then of course ours probably got run over so it could be. Anyway we now have an extra one in case one flies off again!
