Australia has a big team at the Winter Olympics currently being held in Italy. Some are surprised to find Australians performing on the ice and snow but Australia actually has more snow that Switzerland. The construction of a year-round freestyle ski-jumping facility in Brisbane, Queensland, one of our hottest cities, means our athletes can train at home all year round.
The jump is actually a water ramp which will allows athletes to reach speeds of up to 70km/h and launch themselves 17 metres in the air. This enables them to practice their jumps and routines.
At the end of their jump, they land in the water. I don’t understand how they don’t injure themselves landing in water with their snow skis on. Does anyone have any ideas?
As you might imagine, I’m a bit short on photos of snow so I’ve borrowed one of Vince’s of the mountains in Nepal

I wouldn’t go 0.7 km/h or 0.17 meters in the air on skis.
That’s amazing that they have a ski training area in such a hot locale! And that’s a lovely photo of Nepal.

That's a fantastic pic. I don't think of Australia as having snow.

That's where deployed in Marines. 1996, well Gladstone, then when we were leaving, they let us have the weekend in Brisbane, but they never said we could go skiing.

I would have thought that even with impact release clips on the skis it would be dangerous landing on water with them on
What do I know
I do know Nepal is beautiful
