The is lively dance originated in the Czech Republic. The name “polka” is derived from the Czech word pulka, meaning “half,” referring to the dance’s half-step movements. Polka made its way to the United States in the mid-19th century through Czech and German immigrants.  The dance started to be seen in movies and TV shows. Look at these people having the time of their lives to Andre Rieu and the Beer Barrel Polka.

I saw a lot of it on Family Matters because the character of Urkel was a big lover of polka. It always looked like fun.

@DaddyEvil every time I went to a dance, I was hoping someone would ask me for a polka

Now that one I really know how to do. My mom taught my older sister and I to do the Polka. One time a friend and came to Grand Junction to do a craft show for the weekend. We were board sitting in the motel room so we went for a drink at the bar next door. It was a cowboy bar and that was fine with us. We are watching all the people have fun when a guy came up to me and asked me to dance a polka that they just started to play. So off to the dance floor I went. People were not doing the polka like I knew how. The guy could see I was confused so he politely told I was about to learn to do the Cowboy polka. It was sure different but a lot of fun.
