So when we are at school the careers teacher asks us what we want to do for a career ….right ?
Did you know when you were at school what job you wanted to do ?
Did you work at that job ?
Are you still working at that same job ?
What is the weirdest thing about any of the jobs that you have ever done ?

@traceyjayne Our careers teacher pointed us all to banking or insurance! There didn’t seem to be anything else on offer. So I insisted that I wanted to study Social Anthropology just to flummox him. Silly plonkers.

The weirdest thing about my last job at a children’s mental health hospital was actually reading what the child had done to be admitted to the hospital. Some of those kids, oh my word, it was appalling. And you know the kids weren’t born so messed up, so you think about the adults who must have reared them. It got really weird.

Yes, I can imagine. Working in the school system for almost 40 years I too have seen and heard some very disturbing things …..you have to wonder….what goes on in peoples heads and what do these children see and hear !!!
I didn’t know you had done that job.

I was hired at Walmart to unload semi-trailers of merchandise and put it on shelves. After a couple of years, I switched to the new-to-them cellphone center. They didn't train me, they expected me to go online and learn about cellphones, cellphone companies and how things worked. Then come into the store and talk to the customers and answer their questions and sell them phones and plans.
The weird part was that after I'd been doing that job for several years (and consistently getting praised by customers and management alike) they put a new manager over that department who told me I was only allowed to talk to a customer and answer one question and then step back and go to a different customer. Of course, customers complained and I complained to the store manager. The store manager told the department manager that wasn't the way to run a department... So the department manager got mad at me and kept sending me out of the department to work in other areas of the store. Of course, customers would see me and try to talk to me about cellphones or cellphone companies... I'd have to explain I wasn't in that department that day... So they complained to the store manager who pulled me back to the cellphone department and told me to stay there.
The department manager would tell me to go somewhere else for the day and I told her the store manager told me to stay in the cellphone department. She'd pretend to look around and ask if I saw the store manager... When I'd say no, I don't see him, she'd tell me to go to another department for the day...
The store manager took me out of her department and told her to leave me alone and that I was doing fine... It was a constant mess like that until the store manager fired her.

@Traceyjayne I worked in that department for 13 years before the main office closed the cellphone department and hired an outside company to do that job.
I had been having trouble seeing for several years so they terminated me. I MUCH prefer not going to work anymore, thank you.

My "weirdest" job was when I danced as a stripper in a men's club. Boy do I have stories from that job!!!

It was either teaching, nursing or office work for us but we never had career counselling.
