How's Your Balance?

United States

Mine is okay, not great, but not bad. I'm 61 years old. I go to the gym 4 days a week and work on maintaining muscle and strengthening but I don't really do any yoga or balance exercise, but I think I should. I can't stand on one leg anymore without losing my balance. I had that fall in Poland in August, but I don't count that as balance as my leg gave out on me. How is your balance as you're aging?

I'm 62 and my balance isn't good anymore. Pretty gave my bicycle away when I started to go for a ride several years ago and crashed immediately. She didn't want me to get hurt in a crash. We found out a year or so later that I have hyperthyroidism/Graves' Disease and it can affect my balance. Sometimes I can walk just fine and other times I have to hold onto walls and doorways just to walk through the house to reach the bathroom. Now, we found out I also have hydrocephalus, which can also affect my balance. I have a quad-cane but don't use it in the house. Sometimes my balance is good enough I don't need the cane outside the house, either. Every day is a new experience.

@2ndchances24 Pretty should have kept mine. It was a good bike. She went and bought one for herself two or three years ago.

I still have good balance, I'm still young. Only sometimes my feet get tingly when I'm on the roof of the house.

You claiming to be young is really funny when we all know you're 70 years old.

You are active and that's good. I think I have a good balance for my age.

My balance isn't horrible but it isn't great. I definitely can't stand on one leg anymore,

Not good. I always use a cane/walker/wheelchair. I am always afraid of falling, especially when I'm out walking on concrete or an uneven surface. I will be 78 in March.

I use to have great balance till I landed in the hosp & everything went south on me now I have to make sure I watch how I get up & where I step & all that cause I get dizzy spells at times if I get too hot or move too fast, But other than that I'm doing pretty good at 68 in April.

Could be better, but could be worse. Hopefully going to chair PGA today. That may helo. I could do light yoga, but this is free.
