Another Olympic headline

@AmbiePam just posted about unusual Olympics headlines. One she didn’t mention was the controversy over the men’s attire in the ski-jump competition. Wearing a suit that’s a bit baggy in the right places can give a jumper a bit of extra lift – a bit like a flying squirrel, or a toned-down version of one of those wingsuits. To prevent this possibility, athletes have to be measured in skin-tight underwear. A rumour has been circulating that some competitors injected their private parts with hyaluronic acid in order to make them swell up, thus increasing the amount of fabric they would be allowed in the groin area. As they jump, they lean as far forward as possible to reduce drag, and spread their legs to increase lift. This all sounds too ridiculous to be true, but apparently an extra 2cm of fabric in the groin could increase lift by about 5% and that’s enough to allow a jumper to reach an extra 6m or so! Quite a significant difference. And apparently in the past one team was banned from wearing gloves with webbed fingers for the same reason. Anyway you can probably guess what this has been called (not sure if I’ll be allowed to post this) – ‘Penisgate’

It's amazing the lengths athletes will go to to get that "edge".
