My Mom buys nuts and puts them out for the birds and squirrels. She also puts out bread and biscuits. The squirrels love licking butter off the bread. And they love shortbread biscuits.
We put out nuts and bread and biscuits. We also put out the meat rind.
Do you put any food out for the local wildlife ?
Do you buy it specially ?
Do you put out what you have leftover ….?

@traceyjayne I used to put out bird food because I loved watching and listening to the gallimaufry of small birds that flitted about the garden. The the seagulls got wind of it and peppered my paths with their guano.

I live in an apartment complex, and they really don’t like that because it attracts bugs. My stepmom though will put up bird feeders, and throw out leftover food in her backyard fitting for birds or squirrels or any other creature that wants it. Not copious amounts, but enough to make them happy, I assume.

Sort of... Rabbits and deer come up into our yard to eat the clover or grass growing there and we're planting more clover now so it takes over the entire yard. Soon we won't need to hire someone to mow our yard since the clover only grows four or five inches tall. The clover flowers will grow up to six inches but nobody will complain if they see flowers in our yard.
When I planted lettuce in the pots on our front porch, one fat little squirrel ate it to the ground and got even fatter those two years. Apparently, he didn't tell his buddies about "his" garden.
It was hilarious when I put wire mesh over the tops of the planters so he couldn't steal the lettuce I was growing for Pretty's salads. He'd climb on the wire mesh and give me dirty looks while I laughed.
He didn't like the spinach I grew for my own uses or the sweet peppers and tomatoes I usually planted.

@Traceyjayne We live at the edge of town and have a ravine that floods during summer storms but it also leads to a forest out past town that wildlife can follow into town and past yards here. Our yard is one of the few that isn't fenced off from the ravine so we get animals in the very early mornings that come down hunting for nibbles. After Halloween, I throw our pumpkins in the ravine and we can see deer and raccoons eating them.
There are also bears in that forest and I hope they never come into town. They would really worry me if I saw any of them in our yard.

Not anymore. I can't get around well enough to go outside, especially in the s**w and ice.
