I met my third husband, RK, while I was still working as a cocktail waitress. At that time, he was married. Fast forward several years to the early 80s and I saw him out somewhere again and we started dating and then married.
He was a very outspoken and demanding rather narcissistic personality. He ruled his family, was the older son. There were two brothers and two sisters. His parents were nice and we traveled to Emmett all the time to visit. We hit it off well.
I knew nothing about style, make up, or hair. He took me shopping and did a complete makeover on me. He changed my hair, I started wearing more makeup and wearing much more sophisticated clothes. And I did not mind at all. I had never been good at these things and having him take an interest was great and I appreciated it. I enjoyed the attention and learning. I began getting compliments at work and my friends thought it was an amazing change.
We traveled a lot. My daughter was a teenager by this time and when she had plans with her bestie he and I would go somewhere. We went to Vegas, visited the Redwoods and San Francisco area. We also did some checking out of Adult shops and that was interesting.
I started jogging and eating salads. I lost over a hundred pounds, got down to a wearing a size 1. My daughter and I shared wardrobes. It was a fun time. I wish I had taken more pictures.
He was layed off from his job for a time and I was paying all the bills. I had excellent credit, several credit cards. We bought a new home and a new car after he got back to work. We were doing very well. I was making good money at the telephone company, and he worked at a sawmill as a manager. My daughter was happy and things were good. Or so I thought.
One evening I answered the phone. It was an old friend of RK's and I went to tell him he had a phone call. I came back to hang up the phone and something they were saying made me keep listening.
I will stop here. Wait until you read what transpires next.

I see so many red flags already from reading this discussion now that I know what to look for...

I was so naive. Today I would never have put up with it all.
