The Winter Olympics Are Over: Now What?

I guess they handed off the torch in Italy to France, where the Winter Olympics will be in 2030. Of course, the Summer Olympics will be in Los Angeles, California come 2028 (kind of nervous about that). I was really happy to see the United States win the gold model in men’s hockey over Canada this morning (the U.S. women won the gold medal in hockey too). The men hadn’t won the gold medal in hockey since 1980! I know the guys really wanted it, especially for the late NHL player, who along with his brother, was killed by a drunk driver. The United States won 12 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze. A record for them in the Winter Olympics (I believe), but Norway broke the record for the Winter Olympics overall. I’ll remember it for the men’s hockey, Brazil winning its first ever Olympic medal for Winter Olympics, American Eileen Gu winning for China (her mother’s home country), the poor security guard who died patrolling an Olympic construction site, and America getting to know speed skater Jordan Stoltz and figure skater Alysa Liu who also won gold(s). Anyone gonna watch the Summer ones in two years? Simone Biles might be back!

Majority of the people here only watch summer olympics. Guess because we are not part of the winter olympics at all.

Yes, that makes sense. I doubt people in Brazil had any interest in watching until that one athlete competed for them.

@AmbiePam There was one Filipino who competed in figure skating years ago. Not sure if he joined this time.

You are right to be nervous, Trumps term is not done, yet. LA going to be a train wreck traffic wise. That fool better not come here and make it worse. It was a good Olympics and what a neat men and women hockey games. I think Norway won the most medals. Damn Vikings do love their cold sports and most gold or something. Pretty impressive.

I do not want trouble in in 2028, and I think we’re an even bigger target than normal now. I am so proud of the men and women’s hockey teams. And how about that 41 year old female bobsledder? A gold medal!

@AmbiePam I did not get to see a lot of the Olympics because was not on regular channels at least for our TV set up. I did catch some at my friends house or the bars they made me go to, but it definitely sounds like a lot of neat stories that I will go check out later. You also right about t LA, it has a lot of work to do. They are going to have to do major security because Trump is in office and I Know they have been redoing freeways and stop lights for years now trying to get it right for the Olympics , but its crowded here and they never shut down anything to do things proper. They say we a bunch of socialists, nope, thats capitalism to the highest degree in this state.

I will watch the Summer Olympics because the daughter of our ex-neighbors in Switzerland will compete again. If the EU countries would join, their medals would be so many more. European states will never compete under one single flag.

Wouldn’t that be less exciting though? It’s fun seeing so many countries compete against each other. And it’s cool to see a country the size of Norway win so many. And it’s REALLY cool to know someone competing like you do!

@AmbiePam - I agree that it would be even more exciting if each American State would compete alone. A lot more countries. I am not surprised about Norway, it's a cold country with snow many months a year. I am more surprised about Italy, we only have snow up here in the north.

I enjoyed what we saw which was quite a bit really. We tend to watch on and off when it's sporting events. The Olympics are always a bit special.

I prefer seeing the Summer Olympic games since I played sports in my younger years due to the warmer weather.

I disappointed myself by not watching more of the Olympics; but I was feeling blah. I hope to watch the Summer Olympics.
