It's Been 66 Days Without Chocolate - I Guess It's a Habit Now

They used to say it took 21 days to form a new habit or get rid of an old habit. But scientists changed that to 66 days in the last few years. Today is my 66th day without chocolate. I guess the new habit is going to stick. And I've had challenges because hubby has sent me into Walgreens for jelly beans and Robin's eggs all the while knowing I'm CRAZY about the Easter Candy called Hershey Eggs that have a candy coating and a chocolate center, kind of like M&M's only bigger and with Hershey's chocolate. I have successfully avoided those on 6 trips so far and I'm very proud of myself. Have you kicked any bad habits lately? Formed any new ones?

I'm going sweet free this year. My only exception is dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is good for your brain and your heart.

Hubby is lucky he doesn’t get a kick in the pants for that. You should be proud of yourself!

Nah, I am terrible at kicking bad habits. Good for you with the no chocolate, if that's what you want.

Are you still drinking the chocolate Protein shakes or eating the chocolate protein bars?

Good for you. I've been able to change my diet quite a bit. I did buy a bag of jelly beans recently though. They didn't have my cinnamon ones; so I may try again. Jelly beans are my weakness. I try not to keep them in the house because they don't last long.

I'm working hard on giving up sweets (candy, cake, cookies). Hope that the 66 day rule is true. Passing up all that Easter candy must have been hard.

The bad habit I really need to kick is gritting my teeth! How do I stop that? As soon as I notice that I'm doing it then of course I stop, but when I'm concentrating on some task for example I find I'm doing it. Of course I can't just think 'don't grit your teeth!' all day long!

I guess I have but not deliberately. I used to eat quite a lot of biscuits (cookies, kind of...) anyway nowadays I rarely do. Also I realised that I have stopped eating fresh tomatoes. I used to absolutely love them and bought them regularly but the rest of my family don't eat them so I just sort of stopped. Shop-bought ones are never very tasty anyway, except at the height of summer. And then the ones I tried to grow just didn't come to anything and eventually I realised that the whole year had gone past without me eating a single tomato except about 6 tiny (like pea-sized) home-grown ones.

That’s a big jump isn’t it ….from 21 days to 66 days. You are doing really well. I probably would have lasted three days …and that might be pushing it a bit !
