It's Almost Tornado Season

United States

One of the worst tornados here in my city of Louisville, KY was on April 3, 1974. It flattened a pretty widespread area. We get our fair share of tornados here Spring through Fall. Tuesday is our annual Tornado Drill for the whole state to make sure the sirens are working properly. I'm sure some people who don't know about the drill will freak out. Better safe than sorry though.

Unless I am outside and the wind is calm I can't hear them anyway. We are to far from them

That is what I hate about Florida. There are enough things to worry me in my life, plus being totally alone, and then the hurricane season arrives. That is enough to give me a major anxiety attack from which I might not recover so I turn deaf ears and just pray for the best.

Your sirens don’t go off every Saturday afternoon at noon anyway? I hate tornado weather. It’s part of why I’m not a spring or summer fan.

You're right about that. This state gets a fair amount of tornadoes too.

We always get quite a few through here but, normally, don't worry about them coming into the city. The one last year that took out the electricity and internet was a fluke. It hit the right area outside the city to rip up a bunch of the cables and uproot poles that carried the internet repeaters for our area. It took a week for everything to be fixed again.

Wow! I never thought of Kentucky as a tornado state. But they can occur anywhere as I found out when I was a student at Ohio State. That tornado which I could see from the upper levels of my dorm, was not only eerie but scary as well. It touched down and leveled Xenia, Ohio (1974)! I'll never forget that quiet, calm dark feeling.
