Well after checkin to the Hotel and having dinner with sandwiches, I and my colleague were very very tired.
We had almost lost a full day's sleep.
Plus I cannot have a proper sleep over long flights.
The limited leg space also means feeling quite stiff.
After having a good rest and freshening up and taking bath the next day, we had a good breakfast.
Also took some pictures of the outside.
You can see snow, sunshine and an airplane.
The airport was not very far from our hotel.
Then we decided to venture out.
Not once but twice.
What followed was a first hand experience with sub zero Freezing cold.
It was -3 to -5 C. Yet what tested us was the wind.
In the morning when we went to a nearby departmental store, cold winds increased in intensity when we were coming back.
Plus it seemed that my cap might blow away.
It was an old cap purchased long way back in England but looked insufficient against sub zero cold.
I had to hold it to prevent it flying away!
First lesson learnt to be better prepared!
Then we went to some sight seeing.
We saw Rosenborg Palace Plus an adjoining garden (now snow covered).
Then a church and then another Royal Residence near the sea front.
I do not have the pictures as my friend took them.
What was testing were the terribly Freezing cold winds near the sea front.
Even with a partial face covering I felt very chilly and almost numbing.
My layers of clothing felt insufficient.
Hands were feeling numb.
I asked my colleagues (among them our Danish colleague who is much more used to such conditions) to stop and we decided to go back.
Later I learnt that the wind chill effect made it close to -15 C that day !!
I had never faced such a cold before and how could I have been fully prepared.
Still for the next day I prepared better !
Images :
Early morning images - with and without sunshine and at different angles.
Plus Hotel Buffet breakfast place.
I would try to get images of the Castle if I can.
Quite a day !!
Continued from : After spending many hours at Helsinki Airport, where we explored shops and also had a small cup of coffee, we boarded the connecting fight...

Minus 15C
That must have been a helluva shock to your system
Did you buy any warmer clothing?

The next day onwards, I wore a slightly warmer jacket and an inner jacket of thinner material but had a zipper.
Plus I changed my gloves to leather ones which were warmer.
I was prepared except for the cold winds hitting my face.
My Danish colleague loaned me a woolen face covering for my period of stay.
That helped.

I presume it was that, but I did not ask !
That colleague of ours is good at work but is also very considerate with us.
Else he would not have come so far away on a Sunday to take us around the city!

Yet the same places in Denmark might be hotter in te summers than Scotland.
Need to check!

Well, inside the temperatures were maintained between 20 and 22 C. So practically one could roam around in a shirt.
A very big contrast!
There was a moment when the two folks who were with me were walking slightly faster.
I was thinking if the cold made me collapse, I could not catch with them
But well, things got in control somehow!

Yes, any wind when it's cold makes it feel MUCH colder and the wind cuts right through any clothing you choose to wear. I'm glad your guide took you back to your hotel rooms.
There's a reason I don't go outside when it's cold here unless Pretty forces me outside for some REALLY good reason!

From the faces of most of the people who were walking outside, very few seemed to enjoy the cold.
Plus we came to know that Copenhagen had such extreme cold and snow after many years.
So it was colder than usual even for the local residents.
He was actually not our guide but our Danish colleague who came especially from 50 to 60 Kms away in his car to take us through some places in Copenhagen.
He has been working with us since many years and is a very nice fellow.
Also he is fitter than us although older and takes part in Racing and even Skiing.
So he was better able to face cold but was also considerate enough to stop when he realized that we were not able to handle the extreme cold at that time.
Yes it is not very wise to go out in extreme cold unless needed.
