Although it won’t happen that often this month (or any month
), at least you’ve heard (or heard of) both songs today as I celebrate my birthday a month early by celebrating songs that are having a “big” birthday this year. Let’s start today with the 40-year-old song.
Back in the High Life Again - Steve Winwood
Remember last January when I posted a 2024 “top” ten music loss for Will Jennings and everyone was shrugging? Well, here he is. Among the many things he gave music, he co-wrote the chart topper with Steve Winwood.
It’s hard to believe that Steve Winwood could be on the 1966 list as well (with the Spencer Davis Group)…and he’s only 77! Yeah, he was singing with the Spencer Davis Group when he was 14.
This is one of Winwood’s biggest hits, a joyous testimony to living and happiness. Interestingly, Warren Zevon covered this song on his 2001 album Life’ll Kill Ya and slowed the pace of the song down…and, with it, the meaning, turning it from a celebration to wishful thinking…all without changing a word.
Let the good times roll with this classic hit!

My fault, I had to mention that something would blow your speakers up, didn’t I. Or the pets did it to keep you from dancing….

How about that! And you also know that Will Jennings did some collaborating with Jimmy Buffett!
