The Greatest Average American

Last week @TraceyJayne was talking about quiz shows, and I told her about this new show hosted by Nate Bargatze, called The Greatest Average American (on ABC). I told her I’d review it once I watched it, and I finally got to. The show says it is an hour, but it’s really two, half hour episodes. Three contestants compete in three rounds (a contestant is eliminated after each round), and if you just get to the bonus round you win $10,000. If you WIN the bonus round you win $67,920 (the average American salary). To make it even cooler, whether you win the $10,000 or the $67,920, the show covers the taxes. A question in the first round was having asked 100 average Americans what side dish “make” a BBQ, which of the following did they say? A. coleslaw B. potato salad C. baked beans or D. Cornbread The answer was baked beans. Another found asked what percentage of 100 Americans asked believe psychics are real? The person closest gets the points. The answer was 18%. The bonus round is questions asked to the audience like What would they prefer: fireworks or a parade? You get three strikes out of 7 questions (majority said fireworks). If the player wins the bonus round the audience also wins (one episode was an Applebee’s gift card). You may be thinking it sounds like Family Feud. It’s not. The host, Nate Bargatze is charming, and I enjoy his clean comedy stand up, but it will take him time to adjust to being a host. He’s a charming “every man”. Has anyone seen it? Wouldn’t it be nice to win and NOT pay taxes on it?
