I Actually Had To Talk To A Real Live Person Today

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I can't believe it's 5pm and I'm only finding time now to say hi. I've popped on and off throughout the day but didn't have time to officially say hi. I had bills to pay (house taxes, water bill) and realized that I was coming to the end of my checks and didn't have more. So, had to call and order more. I can't believe it's going to take almost 4 weeks to get the new ones. There are just a few bills I have to pay by check. Normally everything else is paid online through my bank. Makes me wonder how much longer checks will be an accepted method of payment. Good thing those few checks I have left will last the 4 weeks before the new ones arrive. I could have paid for expedited shipping but nope, I'll wait for my "free" checks to arrive.

One of those days they won't exist anymore because more and more placeses are moving to online methods. I haven't used a check since we bought the van.

I tend to agree that eventually checks will be something we used to use.

Cheques are rarely used here, we are more apt to pay bills with online or telephone banking, and pre-authorized debits are the norm for payments that come out of accounts on a regular basis, such as rent, car payments and things like that. As a result cheques are quite pricey here, a batch of 100 (which is the smallest order) runs in the $70 neighbourhood.

@Marilynda1225 I think that the biggest downfall isn't necessarily the cost, but more the number of cheques it provides. It would be awfully difficult to keep track of all of those cheques, and losing one would be worrisome.

Wow that's quite expensive for a small order of checks. I'm glad mine were free even though I have to wait for them to be shipped. I do like the convenience of online banking/paying etc.

Believe it or not, I still have to use checks to pay for certain services, too. I brought down our last check pack and should reorder. I won’t until we are almost ready to return to CT. So, what was your surprise dessert last night?

Thankfully I only need to use checks for a few things too. I was surprised when I saw I needed to order more My surprise dessert was a frosty from Wendys' I've been whining that I've wanted one for awhile so I guess she got the hint

@Marilynda1225 I made hubs write a check for once. I really dislike writing them. He’s the one who told me that it’s time to order more. Whining is a wonderful way to get what you want

Cheques. I have not had a cheque book for years and years We pay everything online through the bank. I think cheques will become redundant soon simply because they require human intervention

I agree that checks will become something we used to use and the next generation will be perplexed Half of my grandkids wouldn't even know how to write out a check

It does feel weird to have checks, but up until a few months ago we were still paying rent by check. First, management made it online through a portal, then they insisted on money orders, and then they went to check. This place changed hands once again, and now we pay online again. I still keep checks just to be safe.

Most everything I pay online including my HOA fees. It's so convenient. I can't imagine having to go to the bank every month to pay by money order so I'm glad they went back to you being able to pay online again. My trips to the bank are few and far between these days.

I wrote a check today too. I am trying to hold off writing them unless I really need to, because they are expensive to order.

I'm so glad I got mine for free even though I have to wait weeks for them to arrive. Do you remember the days when we could order fancy checks through online companies like Current, etc.

I wonder that too but I think in my country, it own't disappear especially when we're doing business and have to issue postdated checks.

I don't think many of us use checks very often anymore.

Our cheque books would be sent out once we go to the last five in the book. We were always running out too but then, when we got a new book, we'd start using the cheques from the back and they'd send a new one immediately. Maybe that would work for you.

That's a good idea and I'll have to keep it in mind. My batch coming is 100 checks so that should last me quite awhile.

It’s very rare people use cheques here these days. My Mom still does, but usually only to pay me back when I’ve done shopping or paid her bills for her. You don’t get offered a cheque book when you open accounts now, although I think with some accounts you can have one but only if you ask.

I have to have checks. I pay the housekeeper I have with checks and any contractors that I use.

I'm beginning to realize that fewer and fewer people want to accept checks. You're lucky that you can pay by check. It's really easy than having to figure out alternate ways to pay.

in Jamaica it is an uphill climb to speak to a human. AI is there wasting your time and you keep demanding an agent When you finally get one it feels like a gift

That's a long time to wait for checks. I do all my bills online or through automatic bill pay. It makes everything easy. You're doing better than me lately. I'm getting here once or twice a week right now. I know that makes you happy because when I'm gone, I'm writing or getting ready to publish my next book. I should be publishing Faith to Believe next month. I talked to my proofreader on Tuesday night and she said she would have it back to me in two weeks. I hope so.
