Today’s squally rain has chased me along the coast to Islandmagee to take refuge in the only cafe in a 50 mile radius to make decent coffee. It’s not every member of staff that turns out the perfect brew but Phelim’s on today and he’s the best. Along the way I stopped along the causeway to watch a solitary heron stand in the shallows left by the retreating tide. I’ve never seen such a depressed looking bird as that solitary, grey heron standing in the rain. Maybe he’s been listening to the news. I took the back road home, up the hill and through Ballycarry. The sun came out and the rain dried up just as I came in sight of the sea below, with the ferry to Scotland pulling out of the harbour. It’s always a sight to make me restless.
