Can you make a starter lunch or dinner for a $5 Lunch or Dinner Challenge: Is "Convenient" Always a Rip-off? I often here challenges.on groceries or budgets for food, but can you cook a full lunch or dinner for five dollars? I am struggling with this idea, because all i can buy with that is a kilo of pork. I cant buy extra veggies. Can you suggest me five dollar meals? Yes you can buy a solo meal, but can you prepare a meal for a family?

I can make so many meals for five bucks or under. Even some that will feed more than one person. There are fast food meal deals that are five bucks.

@cuttyrish Not for every meal. There is no way you prepare meals for all those people every single meal. And its easier than you think it is.

@cuttyrish That's a crazy amount of people to cook for every day. I could fix the food, but paying for meals for that many people would be very hard on anyone's budget right now.

Yes, I can, but it might not be meals that you are used to eating or even like. None are complicated. Make a pot of homemade chicken soup, or potato soup. Old fashioned ham and beans and homemade cornbread--easy and cheap. Tuna casserole. Salmon cakes and baked potatoes. Depending on how much meat you use, spaghetti. Broccoli cheese and rice casserole, you can toss in bits of chicken or turkey or whatever if you want to. Breakfast for supper--pancakes, waffles, egg casseroles, etc. You can do it. It just takes some planning. And never, ever throw food away--leftovers can always be used in something else.

For tuna casserole, do you use canned ones?

@cuttyrish Yes, I use canned tuna. I prefer the water packed vs. packed in oil.

My go to is a big pot of vegetable soup. It’s under five dollars, at least the cost would be under five dollars here.

A meal for a family for $ 5 it's not easy to put together, but you can. A big pan of lasagna mad with ground turkey instead of beef. Oven roasted sausages and potatoes. Mac and cheese, or pasta with a tomato sauce. A big pot of chili.
