Dealing with Hip Pain

My little collage

Hi All, the last two weeks have been uncomfortable for me. It seems that I have a pinched nerve in my hip, and it hurts to walk, so I have been staying in most of the time. A couple of times that I have had to go out to do things, it has been very uncomfortable. I am lucky that my husband can go to the grocery store and that I currently don't have to go to work (still no job results - not even an interview), so it's pretty easy to stay at home. However, I am sad to report that I was unable to deliver my artwork to the gallery last week, and so I will not be in this month's show, after all. Hopefully, I will be recovered in time to have some work in the next show. In the meantime, I can at least sit comfortably, so I have been able to do some writing and artwork. I finished the small collage with pieces of text from my antique book and a little bit of drawn embellishment, so here is a picture of that. I hope everyone is well!

Hope your hip gets better soon.. I hope also that the pain isn't really bad

@Ineeddentures I think this is just a pinched nerve. I do have arthritis in that hip, but I had an x-ray in October and my orthopedist told me it still looked pretty good, not bone-on-bone, yet.

Thanks! It only hurts when I'm actually up and walking on it, but it worries me, because I know walking makes it worse, but it's hard to avoid completely (gotta go to the bathroom, get food, etc)

@AliCanary is it a bone to bone pain hurting at the joint?

I'm sorry to hear about your hip. My left knee has been very painful but today I've had an ice-pack on it most of the afternoon and it does seem to have helped. I really don't want to have a knee replacement. I hope your hip improves soon.

Thank you, and I hope your knee feels better, too! I get knee pain sometimes, as well, so I know it can really slow you down. A knee replacement might not be as bad as you think - I have heard from friends who have had joint replacements that they absolutely LOVE them and feel like they have a fresh start. I do understand your reluctance, though!

@AliCanary My sister-in-law has just had hers replaced and it didn't go well at all so that's probably put me off a bit. She was in a lot of pain.

@JudyEv oh, that's too bad! I had knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus back in July 2019, and it took a very long time to recover.

I hope you can get that hip to stop hurting and all the best to you. I have a bum left knee that hurts when I walk but otherwise I don't feel it,

Thank you! It's similar - it's okay if I just sit, but it's frustrating to not be able to move around very well.

@RasmaSandra that's good! They say that it's better to use it (gently). I am trying to remember to do gentle stretches, too.

@AliCanary You're very welcome. If you ever need a hip replacement, it is much easier and less painful than a knee replacement.

Still not great, unfortunately. But it hasn't gotten any worse. It might be getting a bit better, or I might just be getting used to it.

Thank you for your kind words. It may take some time for this to go away, but it eventually will. It hasn't gotten any worse, and I think it has possibly improved a little.

I like your picture, but I am very sorry your hip is bothering you. That kind of pain messes up how your whole body interacts with each section.

Thank you! You are so right about that. It has caused some pain in my other joints because of compensation for my limp. So annoying!

I'm sorry to hear about your hip. Hopefully it feels better soon. It's definitely not easy finding work, but I'm sure you'll find something.

I guess it's lucky that I haven't had to go to work while my hip has been problematic. I am now looking for things I can do online, at least until this issue resolves itself.

Thank you! I'm glad it's not constant and only happens when I walk on it.

My best friend has been experiencing hip pain too. She had hip surgery last year on one hip and now the other one is bothering her now.

Oh, that's too bad! One of my friends who ran marathons had to get a double hip replacement. I guess he wore his hip joints out. He feels so much better now!
