Along with songs that are 50 years old, we’re celebrating my birthday next month with songs that are now turning 40. Hey, they’re still younger than I am!
Let’s boogie on back to 1986 with today’s song.
Every Little Kiss - Bruce Hornsby and the Range
You know, I feel a little sorry for Bruce Hornsby. I feel like that guy could have been BIG. And I certainly love his stuff. If you remember, “The Valley Road” is on my 100 favorites list.
The “problem” is that Hornsby changed musical styles a lot. Personally, I don’t mind that. In fact, I love it. The general public, however, wants everything to be predictable. As a result of Hornsby working with acts as diverse as the Grateful Dead (he was their piano player in the early 90s), Wayne Shorter, and Ricky Skaggs, the “top 40” audience dropped him like a hot potato.
Their loss. Believe it or not, this was the first single released in Hornsby’s career. It flopped. Then “The Way It Is” became a big hit, so the record label re-released it as a single. The second time around, it made the Billboard top 20.
Hornsby’s still out there, making music for the musically adventurous (as he calls them). His hit days are long behind him, but the quality is still strong.

Just now
Sounds kinda country to me. Would it play well on elevator music?
