What Does Orange Have to do With it?

When I was in elementary school it was imperative that you wore green on St. Patrick's Day. If not, you got pinched but especially if you wore orange. It wasn't until much later that I found out why. It is inappropriate to wear orange on this day because it has a historical association with Protestantism and unionism in Ireland. Where the contrasting green represents Irish Catholicism and nationalism. Wearing orange can be seen as being insensitive to other Irishmen.
