It seems like I used to know this word, but I was reading an article in my online newsfeed today that used it and I had to look it up to remember what it meant.
ESCHEW: to deliberately avoid using; abstain from:
The context of the article was that the current Catholic Pope was planning to live in a palace that the previous Pope eschewed living in.

I know the word but have never used it. I think it is more old fashioned.

I eschewed from drinking for 14 years.
I suspect when I get a bit older I will eschew from things and not by choice lol

I have heard of the word but I haven't used it in my normal conversation. Don't think people would understand me if it was just a casual conversation.
