Thank God, everything is okay here in town. We had tornado warnings and “significant damage” thunderstorm warnings, but I didn’t see any major damage driving across town this morning (except at the gas pump, where gas went up 60c a gallon overnight ). So let’s celebrate with a song from an album turning 40 this year. One Taste of the Bait - Webb Wilder Darn, I should have picked “Poolside” from this album for NJ Chic. You’ve never heard of him. Don’t hurt your brain. A few years ago, I went down to Nashville to see Webb Wilder. After the show, Wilder’s bass player, Tom Comet, and I were discussing the amazing year that 1986 was in music. I know that you’ve probably never heard of these acts, but they were tearing up the college rock scene in ‘86. Webb Wilder was one of them. And no, I wasn’t saying that because I was talking to his bassist. Obviously I liked the music enough to find it, and to support it! It was a great reminder of what a simple guitar, bass, and drum could do in music, not to mention imaginative songwriting (“If she don’t drive you crazy I guarantee you’ll be close enough to walk”). And here we are, 40 years later, and I still listen to Wilder’s music. One Taste of the Bait Written by R.S. Field Recorded by Webb Wilder From It Came From Nashville, 1986 It’s easy to fall, you don’t need a push:

Gas went up 60 cents overnight? That’s insanity. I’ve never heard of him, of course, but I’m loving the name, Webb Wilder.

Yep, 3.19 to 3.79. And that’s his stage name, his real name is John Webb McMurry.
