Don't promise me anything...

Who doesn't get disappointed when promises aren't kept? Who doesn't get hurt?
That's why I don't like it when people promise me something coz I tend to always believe them. Only to end up getting disappointed or hurt.
So I always tell them don't promise me anything. Just do it.

Actions speak louder than words Toni
I grew up getting disappointed at every turn so I used to expect to be let down

@Ineeddentures Right, last night my sister asked me if I wanted to watch a concert of a famous local band and I said yes. But it will on the 15th of May. She already has the VIP tickets but she didn't hand it to me. So I'm not expecting anything until then. Coz things could change. Many things could happen till May 15th.

Exactly. I was told I was a "priority"; but when push comes to shove, this person is not available to help me.

And that's what happened to me too. And until now that person still keeps insisting that I am a priority. But I couldn't see how am I when I'm being pushed aside each and every single time!

Same here. And when I promise, it's something I know for certain I can keep.

I think we tend to learn who we can trust and who we can't. I have learned it gets easier to tell as you get older.

I know what you mean since if a person does not do what is best for you, the person who does not deliver their promises will lose.

Better not make promises you can't keep. That's always my rule.

I don’t make promises that I’m not sure I can keep. It’s better just to say ‘I will try to do that or get that ‘ then if you can’t , people will understand.

"Better not make promises you can’t keep” sounds nice in theory, but real life isn’t that black and white. People can have good intentions and still fall short.
If everything is taken that literally, it just turns into constant disappointment and that’s more about the mindset than anything else.

Yep, so I change my mindset not to expect. And I tell the person right away.

As it should be. We should act on it. I don't make promises unless I can absolutely fulfill it.
