Do you remember when it wasn't a tragedy not to have a phone with you?

Now a days walking out and going somewhere especially somewhere far away, without your phone seems like a tragedy. If for some reason you have forgotten to bring it, aren't you kicking yourself all the time you are gone? I know I am. The only exception might be walking down to the mailbox or something. Not having your cell is as bad as not as having internet in my book, we are so addicted. However, 30 years ago..we would not have thought twice about not having a phone with us, however, at that time I was mildly addicted to my pager. I did have a brick phone in the mid 90,s but it was more of a novelty.

I spent 40 years of my life without a cell phone and I survived.

So did I, but now we seem to think we can't.

I didn’t care a bit about having a cell phone until I had to help take my mom places. I remember one day we got out of the car, and she just started seizing, and fell to the ground. I knew this was part of it so I didn’t want to call 911. But I had my cell phone, so I called my dad and asked what he wanted me to do since I couldn’t lift her. If I hadn’t had a cell phone, I would have had to leave her passed out to find a phone.

@snowy22315 That was part of her dementia. They would have charged us, and our insurance didn’t cover that. I remember my mom fell once and her caregiver freaked out and called 911. The bill we got for that was enormous.

Why wouldn't you call 911? Seems like a pretty obvious emergency.

@snowy22315 True. I need you over here ready to yell when I leave the house without my phone. The other day I forgot my wallet so I drove to the pool without my driver's license.

Yes, most are like that. Some older people are not chained to their phones..but carry them in case of emergency..

In 1996 I took my mobile phone everywhere.
Hardly anyone had one
So I liked whipping mine out and using it on public

It isn't like I am getting vital calls, but I don't want my car breaking down or something without someone to call, or I can play with it if I am going someplace It reduces boredom and anxiety. Besides I don't have a phone in the car so I am always wondering what time it is, if I don't have my phone.

@snowy22315 My truck clock is never right since I keep the battery unhooked. I do try to take my phone when I think I might have to wait somewhere

@snowy22315 When my grandmother first got a land line in the 60s she wouldn’t leave the house in case someone called and there was no-one there to answer.
