Hey, didn’t I just use this guy last month in the Black History Month list? Why, yes! Thanks for noticing!
We continue the look back 50 years with one of our living legends. Here’s today’s song from 1976.
Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder
Oh, I also used three of the five people mentioned in the song last month, too, omitting just Count Basie (and Glenn Miller ‘cause he was white
) In fact, I quoted the line about Ella Fitzgerald in her discussion.
This album was the first one not by someone named Elton John to debut at #1 on the Billboard album chart, and the third album to do that overall. For good reason, too, it’s an amazing album. This song went to #1 on the singles chart, as did “I Wish.” Then there were classics like “As,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” and “Pastime Paradise” that were radio favorites.
Just to show you what a legend Stevie Wonder is, he could also be on the 1966 AND 1986 lists. Part of that is because he started so young (he was 12 when he had the hit with “Fingertips”), but the bigger part is that his music is so good. You can feel it all over!
