They aren't worth as much as I thought they would be

Earlier this afternoon I went to a yard sale in this development, first of the year! Anyway, although I didn't buy anything I noticed they had brand new Star Wars oven mitts there for 2 bucks. I thought a collector might pay a fortune for those. I asked the people if they had checked the prices on eBay, as all that type of stuff tends to be high priced. They said they hadn't, but they might. I looked they seem to be only be worth about 5 or 6 bucks. Disney ones are worth more. OK< so I am glad I didn't buy them. Did your ever buy something thinking you could re sell for a lot more but it wasn't worth much more than you paid for it? In the past my resells have netted me about 10 or 15 bucks more than I paid for them, not a lot, but worth doing.

I've often thought about checking out yard sales and such for hidden gems that I could resell for higher value later, but I just don't have the time to do so. For most yard sales and garage sales and stuff, you need to get there super early in the morning or else all the "good stuff" will be gone!

@snowy22315 That's my problem too. I never get out there clary enough to grab the best finds!

Speaking of Star Wars I bought an R2D2 Deco Light, perfect working order Original Disney Item from 1980 or there abouts I paid £10 for it Now I thought it would be worth quite a lot of money. But I like it so I have never tried to sell it What do you think,

It wouldn't hurt to check the price on it No one is gonna force you to sell if you don't want to.

@Ineeddentures You know what I found for free once? A Hawaiian Hula girl lamp got tons of calls on that. Easily could have sold for a hundred bucks...Stupid friend sold it for 60 when I was at work. When I had someone lined up for 65.

I’ve never bought something then sold and made a profit. I’ve only gotten things for free and then sold them for a profit. The most I made in a sale was a hundred dollars (luggage).

@snowy22315 That’s fantastic! I only sell to people I know, which makes it difficult to sell a lot of things. I did sell a Vera Bradley bag and made $60 because my friend shared my FB post about it. It really limits me to do it that way, but I don’t want to mess with eBay or anything.

That'a awesome..I wish! I think the most I made was maybe 15.00 on Pottery Barn branded fall pumpkin placemats in their own case. I bought them for a song. I maybe could have made more on them, but I was happy for that. However, considering you have to pack and ship them..not a lot..however, at least the shipping was taken care of and built into the price. Now sis on the other hand resold a lego set on eBay for 1,000 bucks. My son had Lego Mind Storm that I could have sold for that..but some of the pieces were lost. partial sets are worth next to nothing.

No, I don't ever bother looking at the value of something in a yard/garage sale for its resale value. I haven't been to a yard sale in decades, so not sure what kind of stuff is selling these days.

I think they are fun. There is one here that is several miles long. I will have to check the date on that. It seems like last year it was in June, pretty warm but tolerable.OK I just looked the guidance says September 13 and 14..I will be out of town then so it's a no go for me.

No, I never bought something thinking it would be good to re-sell. I had a few things in our home in Switzerland that I sold for a very good price. I had an ancient book that I sold through Amazon for $ 800.

@snowy22315 - It was an ancient Herbal Medicine Book. It was written in 1529, I bought it in Milan 50 years ago in an antique shop. I still remember I paid $ 50 for it and I considered it was not cheap. It was in meant conditions.

We actually lucked out on the collectibles we purchased. I found a Fiesta vase for 25 cents...It's worth several hundred dollars. My mother gave me some sheets and pillowcases with crocheted tops. They sold for $80.

I don't know enough about values really to do this. Posting anything anywhere isn't worth the cost nowadays.
