Did you know that mice and humans share approximately 85/% to 97.5% of their working DNA ? That is the reason why lab mice ( genetically the same as wild mice ) are used for testing and research of human diseases. According to the Foundation For Biomedical Research - All of the 3, 2025 Nobel Prize winners in medicine used mice to develop breakthrough theories about the immune system that led to new cancer treatments and advances in organ transplant" Taking into consideration how important mice are, and they carry around 30,000 genes similar to humans - would they be welcome in your home.? I knew that from my younger son’s former mother in law. She was a scientist at Yale University and worked with mice day in and day out No way would they be welcome in my home. They also carry 30,000 germs.

Of course the lab mice have been "refined" for the purpose. Yes the wild ones carry diseases.

@Kandae11 That’s very true. The lab mice are white. We get field mice which are a nasty gray.

Very much aware of such. They're lab rats for a reason. But no, they aren't welcome in my home though I used to have white mice as a pet.

@Kandae11 I used to have two. But now no. And my two fur babies are "hypoallergenic" breeds.

I knew that, but only because they said that on the TV show, The Big Bang Theory. Mice are not welcome in my home at all. If I had a child who wanted a mouse as a pet, the Lord would have to really speak to my heart for the kid to get a yes!

Those scientists who work with them all the time are truly dedicated.

I knew because one of my cousin is a pharmacology professor and worked for a big Pharma Company in Switzerland. He worked with white mice, they do not bring germs.

@Kandae11 It's weird when you look at them, they seem so different.

Still mind boggling to know that mice have that much of our D N A.

@Kandae11 It followed the book very closely. A ranch-hand takes care of a mentally challenged man during the depression in America but things go badly wrong.

Nah, I respect their importance in science, but I'd still not want them as a house guest.
