I slept early last night coz I didn't want to worsen my condition. I tried to stay in bed for as long as I could this morning.
However, I had to force myself to wake up again because I didn't like my dream.
What was the dream about, you may ask.
Well, it was an hour ago so I forgot the details. But I was about to be reprimanded by my brother. So before he could, I told myself, it was time to wake up.
I have become an expert on that.

Most of the time we wake up because of our dreams. I had guests in my past dreams. There were two large table dressed ready for the guests, but only one had food on it. People moved from one table to another and I could not take care of them. It was a disturbing dream.

In my case, I really tell myself in my dream that it's time to wake up coz I don't want what's going to happen next. I learned how to do it when I was a kid because I always had nightmares about my siblings dying or one of my parents dying.

@toniganzon - In Italy there is the believe that if you dream that someone is dying you make his/her life last longer. It has never been my case. When I saw someone dying in my dreams, it happened.

Yes. I think it requires a certain skill. Or probably we were just not in a deep sleep at all that's why we are conscious.

Definitely. I leaned how to do it since I was a kid. I guess that's why I always feel that I don't have enough sleep because most of the time I am conscious when I'm dreaming.
