The photo shows the view from the Hohensalzburg Fortress in Salzburg, Austria. It overlooks the city and sits at an altitude of 506 metres. At 250 m (820 ft) long and 150 m (490 ft) wide, it is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. The fortress was refurbished from the late 19th century. We went up to the castle on the Festungsbahn funicular railway which was first opened in 1892. During World War I it held Italian prisoners of war and Nazi activists. When I wrote about the fortress back in 2015, I was able to include a video of some of the attractions of the fortress. I’ll try to put more photos in the comments.
