I have been a waitress a lot during my years and the tips were a lot of my pay as well for my coworkers. However the rules for tips in some restaurants have gotten very crazy! Waitresses/Waiter hourly pay is a lot less then the other employees (cooks, dishwashers/bus staff)` At first it was just that we kept our tips, then we had to share out tips by half with the dishwasher/ bus staff on Saturdays and Sundays. Now some restaurants have a tip jar where the customers put their tips in or if a waitrees/waiter get's a tip they are required to put it in there. At te end of each shift management empties the jar and divides the money up so each person get's the same amount in tips! I don't think that's fair because if a person from the wait staff does not earn a good tip from customers they still get paid a good amount of tip money! Then there are people like my son that won't give tips. He told me that they get a paycheck so it doesn't matter! I tried to explain to him that their paychecks are less because they get tips. He wouldn't listen so I gave the tip each time we went out! I have also seen where the bus staff, other wait staff and customers steal tips off tables! That's why I wait and give the tip to the waitress/waiter myself even if I have to wait to find them.

I give tips if I get good service. I don't think it's fair for workers to share with other workers. If a person gives a tip i would think it's for that person who served them. I would tip differently if this weren't so.

If you stay faithful, God will reward you more than that and I am saying that through my own experience. Anyway, I love serving people their orders when we still had our small store. Sadly, we don't have it anymore. I miss taking orders and talking to other vendors when there is no customers. Lol!

I would hate to have to depend on tips for any kind of paycheck.

We have hourly minimum wage here and a different minimum wage for the Wait Staff and other jobs that receive tips such as hairdressers, etc. However those jobs mimimum wage is lower then the other jobs.

It is hard to depend on tips for making more pay. Each individual whould have the tips they earn themselves.

Yes they should! At one restaurant I worked at a waitreses husband worked a job that he could afford to pay the mortgage, utilities, food etc. She used her check to buy extras, gifts and so on. Everyday when she came home she took her tips and put them in this huge jug. She said they usually had five jugs! Every year she emptied them and cashed them in at the bank and it paid for their vaction. Her, her husband and their 5 children. That was a lot of tips!

Thankfully tipping isn't a requirement here. There is a 'basic wage' in place: a minimum that everyone gets. Some places have tip jars.

Divvying up the tips is not a fair way to do it.
