Age doesn't weary everyone

One of the feel-good stories in the news yesterday was that of a 104-year-old gentleman, George Frankln, who is still conducting a brass band in Perth, Western Australia. The Guinness World Record Holder for world's oldest band conductor is held by American Frank Edmond who conducted the Pensacola Civic Band until he died aged 104 years and 168 days.
George took up the cornet when he was seven before joining City of Perth Brass Band in 1934. He served in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War Two, then joined a military band until he retired. He conducted the band for decades and continues to conduct the swing band. If George hangs on till August 27, he can claim the record for himself.
My mother lived to 104 (and a half) but she was very frail by that point.
The photo shows brass and pipe band members on a trip we took to Kambalda, a mining town. Vince isn’t in this photo.

I always said I will live to be 100, that changed when I saw how world worked. I go I can see me dying at 50. Haha, thats 5 months away. Life is funny, who knows how it will turn out, funny my birthday is August the 27th.
I am never scared of dying, just don't prolong it into suffering or I will be fighting everyone and everything.

@JudyEv Wow, congratulations. You do not sound 80, I thought you were 25, nah maybe like 40 or 50. Mylot does have a older population but I find that cool. There is a lot of life wisdom here if people take the time.
As long as you are enjoying life, the day I don't is the day mother Earth can take me is what I say.

@crossbones27 Thanks. Yes, it's mostly older people here but I like hearing from the younger ones too.

I feel like I have encountered more frail of the mind then body with many these days.
People who whine about being a certain age and wanting pity, when they need to realize that had they been born a generation earlier they would never speak like that.

@JudyEv People used to comment that you have to die from something, and often they were referring to cancer, but now that we are outliving previous generations, dementia is much more common in our world.
My doctor asked me if I would allow him to test me in my 50's, as I have it very strongly on my mother's side, but I did not want to know, and I still do not.

All I know is this
If I live until I am 104 it will be a miracle.
74 is optimistic

I don't really want to live that long. Not too many are active and well by the time they get to 104.

To be a 100 and still physically able to do things is truly amazing.
I had a great grandfather who lived more than a 100 and I've been told he was still actively gardening at that age.

I guess the reason that some people live a long time is that they busy working on jobs that they enjoy and they have the support of their families,

I'm always amazed at someone over 100 who is still active. I'm so limited; and I'm 20 years younger.

People back then really lived longer but now at early age people get sick often.
