Ah, the penultimate song that’s now 50 years old. And you’ll know this one if you were alive in the 70s. One of the biggest hits of 1976, the breakout song of this man’s career, and, in reality, “filling the slot” for the number two position. Happy birthday to this song.
#2: Lowdown - Boz Scaggs
Filling the slot. Pick a song, ANY song, from that 1976 masterpiece Silk Degrees and put it here. That was, is, and ever shall be a “desert island record” for me. From start to finish, it’s pure brilliance.
My oft-repeated story, brought back again: in 1978, Toto, on the heels of releasing their first album as a band, had an in-store appearance here in Louisville while they were in town opening for Rush (yes, that Rush). When I presented my album to David Paich for an autograph, I said, “I really like the work you did with Boz Scaggs.” He lit up like a Christmas tree.
Fun fact: this album more or less started the band Toto, as the group of session musicians that comprised that band played all over this one.
Usually I’ll pick one of the two ballads, “We’re All Alone” or “Harbor Lights,” to highlight when I bring this album up. Nah, I’ve given you enough album cuts this month…and you’ll have another one tomorrow.
Meanwhile, just enjoy the daylights out of one of the albums I’d recommend everyone (EBDE = Everybody But Daddy Evil
) to listen to at least once. It’ll be its own “listen again” cheerleader.

Got to have a Jones for this, Jones for that:

Okay. You won’t know the song tomorrow, but I’ll keep pushing on through!
