A young friend told me this morning of his grandfather’s antics last week. I know the gentleman, a man well into his 80s, very hard of hearing, of dimming sight and dependent on a walking stick which doesn’t always get used appropriately. He really is quite dottery, but a generous and gracious soul. Most of the time. Last week he was dispatched to the supermarket by his equally dottery wife. Among the items she required was a packet of Aspirin, nothing outrageous. He took quite a while in the medication aisle it seems, but got what he was sent for, payed for it and drove home. When he delivered everything to his waiting wife he went to sit down when the wife shrieked and shouted, “You need new glasses you filthy animal”. Instead of Aspirin Ernie had lifted a packet of condoms. Easy mistake to make I suppose.
