I need to speak firmly to my pumpkin plants

I wrote about the giant palm tree that has separate male and female trees. Pumpkins have male and female flowers. I was researching why it might be that I have no baby pumpkins on my vines. Apparently, the male flowers appear first to attract the bees then, some time later, the female flowers appear. The females have a little swelling or ovary at the base of the flower. That’s how you tell the difference. So far, I’ve seen quite a few male flowers but no females. The plants have been in the ground for at least several months. I’m sure they should be fruiting by now. And here I was thinking pumpkins were easy to grow. Well, these have been easy to grow but I’d really like some pumpkins to eat. The pumpkins in the image are ones I grew in Donnybrook.

Pumpkins' male flowers bloom 3-5 days earlier than the female flowers do to avoid inbreeding.

Poor pumpkin flowers... If you're a male, people don't think very much of you...

No wonder why my pumpkin wasn't bearing last year so it was the male one and I didn't know. Thanks for letting me know.

I liked growing pumpkins when I was a child. It was fun.

So male pumpkins have it just as bad as male humans. Come on that was funny.
