The Airlines Are Finally Enforcing The Rules About Using Headphones

Both @xfiacre and I have our issues with long flights. And both @xfiacre and I abhor having to listen to other people's loud obnoxious music.
This happens on flights. People, for whatever stupid reason, will play music or movies on their phones or tablets without using headphones and force other people to have to hear their devices.
United Airlines has just come out with this statement: "Passengers who fail to use headphones while listening to audio or video content can now be removed from a flight."
Hooray for United Airlines! I hope the other airlines will follow suit and enforce this basic courtesy to fellow passengers.

@looeyville YES! Common sense and decency prevail. Unfortunately there is now a move to allow phone calls in flight.

I've never flown commercially but I would have thought that would be common courtesy, especially when crowded into a flight with other people.

There's no such thing as common courtesy anymore.

@FourWalls That does seem to be more true than not and it's a real shame.

Excellent! That's going to be hard to do in the middle of a flight, though, isn't it?

That is something all people should already know to do.

I apparently have alot to learn about flying.
I leave 2 weeks from today to start the journey to BC, but do not actually fly out of Ontario until 2 weeks from tomorrow.
I have never been one to enjoy wearing headphones, I am too afraid of damaging my hearing with the sound being so close to my eardrums. Both of my eardrums ruptured when I was younger, so I tend to never take them for granted.
I love to do word search puzzles and I will bring a word search puzzle book for the flight to and fro.
As a seasoned flyer, do you have any other suggestions for me?

You probably already know these, but:
1. Wear comfortable clothes
2. Bring a sweater because sometimes it's cold on airplanes mid-flight
3. If you haven't already done so, choose your seat so you won't get stuck in the middle
4. Stay hydrated - bring your own bottle of water with you on the plane
That's all I can think of.

@LooeyVille What great suggestions.
My DIL gave me the suggestions that you did, although we cannot choose our own seat my employer did that and I will get my tickets next week.
But my DIL advised me that I can only buy bottled water right at the gate before boarding, nothing from home. I am alright with fasting completely during the flight, as she also warned me that the bathrooms are not a place that I want to experience firsthand.
I will pack a rain coat and bring a sweater or a throw type of thing in case my legs also get cold.
I was also advised not to drink caffeine and to watch my sodium intake 36 hours before flying.
I have ginger gravol all read to take so that I don't make a sickly spectacle of myself-that is really my biggest fear.

Wow, it doesn't make any sense to me to listen to music without headphones. That's the best way to keep people from talking to you!

It would be annoying to have to listen to multiple phones.
