Why are we having a holiday here if waste collectors work?

And it's not the first time. I heard them this morning (I was still in my bed) and was surprised to hear them today and not tomorrow, when the Easter holiday is finally over.
I am aware that majority people here or in other Catholic countries or with their holidays don't work but wouldn't be more fair that all of us don't work.
Stores are closed and waste collectors are up to their feet. Not fair, i must say.
Even for other holidays here, waste collectors still worked and it was a day long holiday.
It makes you think some things.

Sadly the garbage must be collected to protect us from rodents and other unpleasant consequences resulting from garbage lying around.
Here stats are a negotiated item in a collective agreement that the garbage collectors have. And on occasion they bring in contracted help to do their work.
There will always be someone that has to work on holidays, the world does not come to a stand still.

you are right aobut that. i mean, it's only a day after so, i thought they can take a rest but, not all jobs are easy and some have working weekends while others don't.

I think waste collectors don't have holidays because they earn only hand to mouth. If they have holidays, their income will further come down

to make eco friendly city, they are collecting only once or twice a week so i beliueve they could wait only for a day but, yes, contracts are always different. i also hope they get an extra pay cause it was a holiday.
