Gambling: One man's food, another man's poison.

Whereas betting is considered a serious problem in most societies, I am of the opinion that it can make someone rise to instant greatness, albeit after days, months, years or even decades of frustration, self contempt and even multitudes of losses. The existence of gambling for centuries despite losses (on the gamblers' side) associated with it is a vivid explanation of how big gamblers' hope to rise to instant greatness is. Even though I personally stopped everything likely to lead to chronic addiction - alcohol and gambling included, I my not confidently discourage one from indulging in the same. One man's food could be another's poison - I believe. What failed to work for me could work for another. As a matter of fact, there are notable people who've risen to greatness by placing bets, even here in Kenya!

It's a risky path to success in my opinion.

Very risky, I experienced it. Mostly leads to losses and leaves one with anxiety or anticipation most of the time

I see what you're saying, but I think comparing gambling success to “instant greatness” can be a bit misleading. Most people who gamble end up losing more than they gain. While a few may succeed, many more struggle with addiction and losses. Do you think those rare successes justify the risks?

Your opinion is great. I know of many who've lost savings and even jobs to gambling

That was very wise of you. Remember it is really bad when it turns out addictive

@id_peace I believe it is good business for the bookmakers, not the gamblers.

@LadyDuck Sadly most addicts are usually in denial. They seem not to accept facts as they are.

Yes, anything addictive is usually bad, and most of the time leads to frustrations or losses.

Gambling is bad because a person doesn't know how to stop.

It’s a very dangerous hobby. I don’t risk my money for gambling. I would be addicted to it.
