You might find it strange but it's very true for us in Bengal. Tomorrow will be the first day of the Bengali new year 1433. The day is popularly known as " Poila Boisakh", meaning 1st Boishakh. Boisakh is the first month of the Bengali year. Though it's not celebrated with big show of fireworks or fanfare like January 1, it's a joyful day and comes with enough internal family and community cultural activities. It's a holiday and we will definitely have some special food on the table! And with plateful of Bengali sweets!!

Yes, I know. In most parts of India Chaitra is the first month of the year, and the Hindu New Year begins on the full moon day of Chairs. It's called the Varsh Pratipada.
