The reason I was a broke kid

So we went to this mountain resort, and I saw this in their play area. It really brings back memories, if you ask me. I used to save my lunch money just to play for half an hour on this after school. I remember one time, my friend got in trouble because his mom went to the computer shop, and he was supposed to go straight home to take care of his younger sister but forgot. Anyway, I don’t know why I’m suddenly reminiscing like this, but this machine was really a part of my childhood. I bet kids nowadays don’t even know what this is. What do you call this where you live?

That sounds like a classic arcade machine! Where I live, we simply call it an “arcade game.” It really does bring back so many nostalgic childhood memories.

Those sounds and flashing lights bring back a lot of memories, yeah? What games did you play the most?

@sol_cee Yes, they really bring back great memories. I used to play racing and fighting games the most—especially when I was trying to win with just one coin left.

@Nawsheen Haha same here! That “one coin left” pressure made every race or fight feel so intense

That's an arcade machine! They still have Super Mario in one of the arcades here. They didn't even have that when I was a teenager. I played Space Invaders at the local bowling alley! I lived too far out of town to do that very often. I had to ride my bike to town 7 miles/11.2 km one way and then ride home again once I'd spent all my money! When I bought my first gaming system, the SNES, it came with Donkey Kong Country. I MIGHT have played it a dozen times before Pretty caught me playing it in my bedroom and took the console and game away from me. I tried to tell her I bought that for me to play and she laughed and told her mom I bought it for her. I never got to play it again.

@sol_cee Pretty was four or five years old at the time and her daddy didn't care very much about the console or game. I've never played games very much.

What fun! Those are arcade games. My father used to bring my brothers and me to play games with him. My mother stood by and watched.

It's an arcade game. There were lots of them when I was growing up. I didn't play often, but when I did, I enjoyed it.

I think that’s an arcade machine. I have not played with that.
