Can you apologise to yourself?

We all make mistakes – to others and to ourselves. Mistakes towards others is self-explanatory. Mistakes against ourselves vary. For instance when I was drinking heavily, I made many mistakes – most of which were against myself. Going without good food, failing to shower on regular basis, suffering H. Pylori and damaging my reputation are examples. So when I made a decision to quit, I was left with my guilt. I mean I was guilty for what I did to me. This disturbed me for a very long time until I came to a certain blog by an American blogger who had survived execution having been on the death row in an Oklahoma State Penitentiary facility. His story was long but what I grasped was that one could forgive oneself and feel free. That I promptly did and, I felt relief – a miraculous feeling of renewal. Can you apologise to yourself?

Of course. We should. We've been talking bad to/about ourselves, believing lies that people tell us about ourselves, limiting ourselves, disrespecting ourselves etc. We could be the biggest person who's bad to ourselves.

Can I really forgive myself and say sorry to myself for failing to shower or people calling me a drunk because I was drinking too much

@Ineeddentures I'd like to think it was true. I beat myself up often enough over past mistakes.

That’s wonderful. When you give forgiveness to others, I think you should definitely be open to forgiving yourself. Sometimes it’s easier to forgive others! We can beat ourselves up so badly. I am glad you were able to let go of your past.
