A baby-soft sink?

The new kitchen sink came with instructions in the form of pictographs. And the final step of the installation process seemed to be wiping it with paraffin. Well this seemed a bit odd, I wasn’t sure I wanted to use the old can of paraffin we have in the garage on my new sink where I’m going to be putting my cups and plates!
My partner chose the sink mainly for its size (to fit in the existing hole) and because it did say it was characterised by its outstanding durability and resistance to stains and scratches. It turned out to be made of SMC, something we had never heard of, which apparently stands for sheet moulding compound, in other words some sort of plastic composite material. In spite of its alleged durability it should not be cleaned with bleach or scouring powder or anything harsh, so I didn’t want to do anything to damage it as soon as I’d fitted it!
After a bit more research we discovered that it could be polished with mineral oil or baby oil. I had most of a bottle of baby oil I bought a few years ago to make snow globes, so I used that; it did seem to make the sink water-resistant and shiny – and it smells nice! Apparently we should do it once a week to keep it at its best, I wonder how many people do that?

I would for a few days and then "forget".

SMC, wonderful stuff.
Won't baby oil just run off of the surface the minute boiling water is in it?
