Hard to find a place to say YES to

So far all the apartments I have looked at either I don’t like or they are good but the building is not. In some instances the price and/or the property tax is too high or they need a lot of work. Having spent a lot of money renovating the house I’m in now I don’t want to buy anything that requires a lot of work as that will mean even more money to spend. I have a feeling once we put the house where I live (my mom’s first house) on the market that it will sell faster than I will be able to find myself an apartment I actually want to buy. And one that my mom will approve of as she is buying it. We need to sell the house first as that money is what we’ll use to buy an apartment once we find one that’s a yes.

I am relieved to know that once the house sells I don’t have to vacate it right away. But I want to avoid having to move in with my mom (in case I don’t find anything I want to buy) because I don’t want to put my stuff into storage. And I don’t want to have to move twice.

I feel it’s gonna be much easier to sell this house than to find an apartment to buy. Especially when I want a washer and dryer inside the apartment. And I want to be close to transportation. And it will be really good if there was a store nearby for groceries.

@LindaOHio Lenny’s cousin-in-law who is a realtor told me once that apartments.com is not always accurate and not to use it.

@lovebuglena Yes, you definitely need all of that. Did you try apartments.com?

It's always tricky when you need to sell a house before buying the next although that is probably what most people have to do. Here, we can purchase 'subject to finance' and we might have 6-8 weeks to sell our own house.

If you can afford to buy the new place without relying on the money from the sale of the first one that’s great. It is more difficult when you need the money from the sale of the first house to buy a new place.

Did you and Lenny pay for the renovation on the house yourselves

My mom paid for it. We paid for the new window treatments and the kitchen appliances.

@Ineeddentures The house is too big for me. Don’t need backyard either. And it’s old. Built in 1996. Sometimes it can get a little water in the basement if heavy rain. Plus, my mom wants to do away with it. She doesn’t want to put anymore money into the house either.

@lovebuglena So why move? Why sell it? Why dont you just stay there?
