Happy Friday! I’m still in shock over that massive tornado that hit Enid, Oklahoma last night…with no fatalities or major injuries. Thank God! We’ve had nearly 60 tornadoes in the US in the last week, and NO fatalities! People are listening to the warnings! Speaking of listening, here’s a song that’s 60 years old but still great to listen to.
#7: When a Man Loves a Woman - Percy Sledge
Mercy, it’s Percy!!!! I can’t say anything about this song, because it’s absolutely sublime. (And yes, I still like “Warm and Tender Love” better.
) There are songs that one particular singer “owns,” and this song is Percy Sledge’s.
This is a great example of how imperfection is so perfect. The horns played in the wrong key on the track originally. The producer brought in a horn section to re-record that for overdubbing, but somehow that recording got mixed up with the original…and so you have those out-of-tune horns at the end.
And you probably didn’t even notice it, did you. You’re just captivated with Sledge’s delivery. Because, at the end of the day, Percy could have sung this with honking car horns in the background and it would still be a classic.

Thank goodness that the tornado that hit your area did not take the life of anyone. The song When A Man Loves A Woman is one of my favorite songs.

It wasn’t in my area, it was in Oklahoma (I’m in Kentucky). I always celebrate good news!
Glad you enjoyed hearing this classic song again.
