Summer Season is here

I guess it’s time for me to be back here again. I’ve been away from Mylot for quite some time to rest and focus on other things. It definitely feels like summer here now, with the sun scorching these past few days. We haven’t seen any rain lately, probably because El Niño was just declared, and being on the Pacific coast, we’re always affected by it. Many people are posting about how hot it is, with some heading to the beaches or setting up inflatable pools to cool off. For those who can’t go out, drinking plenty of water and taking frequent baths seem to be the best ways to cope with this heat.

That heat you’re describing sounds intense though… when it gets like that, even simple things like staying hydrated and cooling off at home make a big difference. Not everyone can just head to the beach, so those little ways of coping really matter. Hopefully you still get a chance to enjoy the summer a bit, even with the heat—just take it easy and don’t let the sun win

Yeah, what you're saying is true. Summer may be free of those annoying rains, but it can get scorchingly hot. Going to the beach would be ideal since we have plenty of them, but with gas prices on the rise, it's just not practical right now. The best way for me to cool down these days is by heading to the malls and enjoying their air conditioning. I do have AC at home, but I usually only run it at night to ensure a good night's sleep.

@rsa101 Malls are actually a smart way to cool down during the day, and saving the AC for night sounds like a good balance. Do you usually go often, or just when the heat becomes too much?

@Nawsheen I usually venture out only when I have a mission—like stocking up on groceries or grabbing some household necessity. It’s not like I’m wandering the aisles for fun; I’m a certified homebody. The rest of the week, I save on gas by staying put and turning my living room into a budget-friendly wind tunnel, courtesy of my trusty electric fan, which works overtime to keep me cool while I pretend it’s a tropical breeze instead of just recycled air.

You could also turn on your air conditioner at home and stay inside. Pretty and I do love to swim, but there are no public pools in our city that open anymore since the Covid pandemic closed them all. The city used to pay for the pools here and charged people for using them but they say it's too expensive now. We could go to the local lake or to a river close to us but haven't started doing that yet this year. (It's still too chilly here for the water to warm up enough for people to swim in the lake or the local rivers. The water won't warm up enough until the end of May or the middle of June.)

I wish I could keep the AC on, but electricity costs are a bit high here, so I only use it at night to sleep comfortably. In the mornings, when temperatures rise, I rely on electric fans to cool things down a bit. With gas prices going up, trips to the beach can also be less appealing. We have plenty of beaches nearby, but the good ones are far and can be costly to visit. Right now, we’re in the middle of summer with no rain—just pure sun.

@DaddyEvil Oh boy that temp is just comfortable enough for me. Our temperatures are ranging to 35-40s range here. 12 is a very rare coldness in our place we have a place like that in the northern part of my country.

@rsa101 We keep our house at 23C summer and winter. I also have a fan pointed at me running. 23C is still a little too warm for me but that's the temp Pretty and I settled on to keep us both mostly comfortable. She a little too cool and I'm a little too warm at that temp. It is not quite 5 am and 12C outside with heavy fog. During the summer, that temp will feel nice to me this early in the morning and I'll just be wearing jean shorts and sandals outside. Our temp later in the day will be 24C, which will still be fine. We're just starting into summer here and won't reach terrible temps until it's 35C outside. Then you'll see us staying in the house, in a pool, the lake or a river to cool off.

I hope you had a lot of fun in the real world and hopefully you have some photos to share of the beaches and such that you went to with those of us who live vicariously through others.

Oh so far with the rising gas prices I think we have shelved our plans to go out. I think its not practical to spend so much on gas just to travel around places.

I’m sure your summer season is much much hotter than ours, but it does get hot and humid in our summer. I need to exercise outdoors early in the morning and work on my garden before it gets too hot. I cool off in my air conditioned house. We plan on getting a new one to be sure it doesn’t breakdown.

@DianneN Yeah, it was nice to see the other end of USA, California, Nevada and Arizona area. It was different from NYC, Washington DC, and New Jersey. Temperatures were kind of tolerable in terms of coolness of climate. I defintely could stay there longer outside because the sun is there but the warmth and coolness was way much tolerable then on the other side. How I wish I could visit Florida since I can imagine the climate might be very similar to where I am living.

It’s definitely much hotter here, but I know Florida can get pretty warm too. I’ve been to New York, and it’s a lot cooler there. I haven’t had the chance to visit Florida yet, but I hope I can finally check it out when I go. Last year, I got to explore California, Arizona, and the Las Vegas area as well.

That’s true—if you’re in the US, your climate is very different from mine. You have four seasons, while we only have two: the dry season and the wet season.

I’m pretty sure we’re used to the summer heat, but I just can’t handle it in the afternoons when the temperatures are really soaring. I can’t rest well during those times, and it feels like I’m melting from the heat outside. That’s why I stay indoors as much as possible; otherwise, I might get sunburned or, worse, risk having a heat stroke.

Probably, the el nino is also affecting weather in India. Days are usually hot here.

I’m not sure if El Niño reaches your area, as I know it’s active here in the Pacific region, but I’m uncertain if it can extend to the Indian Ocean.

Definitely and just imagine the summer in the Middle East.

I know the heat is worse in the Middle East. I’ve never been there, but from pictures and videos, the weather looks extremely dry almost everywhere, with no rain for long stretches. Our climate is different, giving us the best of both worlds—scorching hot summer days and very wet, rainy days during the wet season.
